Cultural diversity in higher education: Understanding and meeting the challenge!

Beschreibung:
In every area of the university, international students contribute to and enrich the learning experience. Yet a diverse and multicultural higher education area is not without problems. In order to benefit from the cultural diversity and the opportunity to learn from and with each other, teaching and mentoring have to focus on the intercultural aspect. This requires an awareness for and knowledge of different learning styles and different methods of teaching, and the meaning of cultural diversity for the teaching and learning environment.

The workshop will start with a general introduction into culture theory and a discussion of the concept of intercultural competence. This will be followed by different case studies, role plays, simulations and discussions in order to reveal and understand the concepts inherent to one's own culture and the way these concepts influence our perception of other cultures. The workshop will focus on the following aspects:

º Raising awareness for different (learning-)cultures
